Skull & Bones’ free open beta begins February 7 – here’s the new trailer and season preview

Ubisoft is hyping up the free open beta for Skull and Bones, and we have to note right up front that while the devs are calling it an open beta, it’s really more like a soft launch or headstart for the real deal, as progression carries over into the real launch, assuming you buy the game, that is. The studio is certainly betting you will buy it and even buy it early, as preorders also come with an additional three-day headstart without the same restrictions on play; during the open beta, players will be capped at T6R1 Brigand.

Ubisoft had previously teased its first four seasons, or more specifically, the lead villains and themes of the first four reasons, but it’s published a detailed infographic now that outlines the various events, rewards, and content additions along the way. Season 1, free like all the others, is dominated by top pirate villain Phillipe La Peste; later seasons give a clue as to the timing, since season 3 includes the Halloween event and season 4 the Lunar New Year event… meaning next year.

Open beta runs February 7th through 11th; the new beta trailer is below.
