The Daily Grind: Would you be interested in a Guild Wars 3?

Shocking!

Have you ever noticed how every MMO franchise seems to get to exactly two numbered installments and then stops, at most? Guild Wars 2 is older than Guild Wars was when Guild Wars 2 launched, and it has been a long fun ride over the past decade. But that brings to mind what is, at least to me, an interesting question: If ArenaNet announced Guild Wars 3 tomorrow, would you be excited to play it?

It’s not that the game is over the hill or anything, just that after more than a decade we’re starting to reach the outer limits of what can be done with this particular game. (Even though it bears mentioning that GW2 has at least two more expansions in the pipeline.) Considering what a major change the sequel was from the original, part of me wonders if another sequel could be even more innovative, while another part of me wonders if it would stick too closely to what the existing game has to offer or be too needlessly different. Still, I think I would be excited. What about you? Would you be interested in a Guild Wars 3?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
