We’re sorry to report today that another one of the Paragon revivals is slated for execution. A little backstory is in order here: Paragon was an Epic Games MOBA from 2016, but it underperformed, so Epic shut it down in 2018, offering up its art assets to the community. And the industry obliged, spawning several new versions of the game, including Netmarble’s Paragon the Overprime. Unfortunately, Netmarble has apparently decided that the game will never make it out of early access.
“Since Early Access, Paragon: The Overprime has been a work in progress,
as we’ve continued to explore, iterate, and think about different ways to meet our Warriors’ expectations. After careful consideration, we concluded that we will not be able to provide a stable and satisfying service moving forward. Because of this, we have made the decision to end the service on Monday, April 22nd, 2024. We are deeply sorry for the unexpected and unfortunate termination of the service.”
The company doesn’t say it, but the game has lost a sizable portion of its playerbase since hitting Steam early access, down from around 32K peak 15 months ago to around 1.2K peak this week.
Purchases are off now too, and the company will put an end to the game’s website, social media, and Discord on April 29th, so best save what you can now. Customer service will stay up through mid-August (though it’s unclear what for; the missive doesn’t mention refunds or promise data deletion, etc.).
MOP’s own Fight or Kite columnist Sam Kash took a look at two Paragon spinoffs over the years – Fault Elder Orb and Overprime itself – finding both of them surprisingly enjoyable, which makes this sunset all the more frustrating.
