MOP’s Chris and MOP’s Sam have both taken a look at Myth of Empires so far in the two weeks since it launched here in the west, finding it generally fun but terribly slow to start in true survivalbox fashion, meaning the game’s best bits are tucked away toward the end of the game. Angela Game doesn’t seem to be addressing the game’s slow start, but it has laid out its “development plan and upcoming gameplay” strategery in a new Steam post, based on the feedback it’s collected.
It’s actually quite a long list of plans for the game, all in addition to optimizations and server and queueing fixes. Specifically, the team is looking adding Greece, Persia, Rome, and Egypt, along with their associated tech trees; more legendary creatures; an improved animal breeding system; more water and air vehicles and fortresses; underwater content and treasure; more character customization perks; proper English voiceover work for NPCs; an upgraded farming system; better boss AI; and clearer PvE objectives. Further, the studio says, “We will be introducing new foundations and ceilings that not only provide support for additional structures, but also have their own functionality, for instance, the ability to grow crops and raise fish.”
Note, not all of this is coming in the very near future; for example, among the new civilizations, only Greece and Persia are en route in 2024, meaning Rome and Egypt will be 2025 at the very earliest.
MMORPG fans should take particular note of some of the more massively multiplayer content on deck:
“Thousand Man Season Server: We plan to open a single season server that can accommodate 600 – 1000 players, who will engage in week-long faction-based PVP events featuring all new strategies and tactics.
“400-600 Player Jousting Battles: The Jousting Battlefield will be expanded to give more players the chance to experience the game’s brutal combat against the backdrop of a massive battlefield.”
Incidentally, since launch, Angela Game has added 119 new servers (we counted). Granted, this is a survival MMO, but it’s clearly still growing. Steam’s figures agree; the title has seen a peak player count of over 33,000 on Steam since its global release.
