Star Wars The Old Republic celebrates May the Fourth with a free Phantom Menace BX-24 droid

Last night, the Star Wars The Old Republic team dropped a massive preview of its 7.5 update, which includes everything from a farming system on Dantooine to new solo challenge content. But tucked away in the stream was mention of the annual May the Fourth Star Wars celebration, which as always includes freebies for players. This year, it’s BX-24.

“In honor of Star Warsâ„¢ Day, and to show our appreciation for all of our players in a galaxy far, far away, we’re giving away the The Phantom Menace inspired BX-24 droid!” Broadsword says. “Players can log in to Star Wars: The Old Republic anytime between May 1st and May 16th and their very own mini-pet will be waiting in their in-game mailbox.” The event is accompanied by the requisite sales and a double XP event too.

Why use The Phantom Menace as this year’s theme? Because the movie happens to be celebrating its 25th anniversary. In fact, if you’re feeling nostalgic for the prequel trilogy, you can see The Phantom Menace in theaters again this weekend. (I’m going Sunday myself!) Just remember to bring real money. Republic credits are no good out here.
