Tribes 3 Rivals heads into de facto maintenance mode as developers offer compensation

There’s bad but perhaps not unexpected news for Tribes 3 Rivals players today as developer Prophecy Games has put out a rather flatly titled “Player Update” that announces compensation for everyone who has paid money for the game. Any money spent on the game prior to June 27th will go toward the developer’s new game, Ultra Strikers, as a flat dollar-for-dollar credit. And if this sounds like the prelude to the game shutting down, it sort of is, as the update also states outright that the game is not able to support the studio at this time.

The stated goal is to keep the game supported with limited updates moving forward, but it certainly doesn’t sound as if the game is going to be kept in anything like active development moving forward. It also doesn’t sound as if there’s a plan to potentially change that in the future, beyond providing a new game for players to migrate to. Our condolences to fans of the game who had hoped for more.
