Early this morning saw a little surprise land in the YouTube subscription feeds of voracious Monster Hunter Wilds fans: a series of three new videos that provide some of the first sneak peeks at specific gameplay elements of the multiplayer RPG.
The first video takes a look at the focus mode feature of Wilds, which lets players enter into what looks like a mouselook mode to more accurately aim their attacks and blocks, which in turn helps focus hits on body parts to open up wounds, and also allows for some better turning and movement, even in the case of the normally ponderous great sword weapon. This mode also unlocks unique moves to unleash additional damage and highlights wounds inflicted on the monster.
The second video is a look at the more general mechanics game, which mostly highlights the previously showcased abilities of the seikret mount and the new slinger tool, including the ability to swap to a second weapon while mounted and use the slinger to gather items from a short distance.
The last video is all about the great sword weapon, which shows some of its tried and true attacks as well as a peek at some of its focus mode attacks and one new move where the player character viciously uppercuts a monster for having the temerity to try and bite them. All three videos await below, and make sure to check out impressions from MOP’s Andrew from SGF 2024 if you haven’t already.
