Once Human outlines future plans for scenario servers, social features, and its pet system

Once Human’s core gameplay loop looks to be focused on seasons and “scenarios” – servers that have limited-time gameplay themes – which prompts the question of just how things are going to shake down moving forward. Much of that was answered in the survival shooter’s Discord, which was thankfully shared to Reddit for those unable or unwilling to add another Discord server to their list.

Right now, the current season has had two scenarios running since launch: a PvE scenario known as Manibus and a PvP scenario called Evolution’s Call. Starry Studio says it plans to release four scenarios each year, with a PvP-centric Prismverse’s Clash beginning in September and a PvE server opening at sometime in October, along with plans for a PvP scenario that runs year-round “with no restrictions.” Specific details on these new scenarios weren’t fully shared, but the devs point out that unique mechanics and maps are possible, and the PvE scenario is going to feature heightened survival mechanics.

Starry also confirmed that players can either move to a new scenario later on or stay where they are until the scenario ends, and most everything will carry over with exception of memetic specializations and scenario-specific items. It’s a lot to take in, but the Redditor does try to collect it all in one place.

Meanwhile, the studio is also taking a look at updates to deviations (aka pets) in the game. Planned updates on this front include systems to guarantee rare deviation finds, unique display cases for placing deviations in a base, and a fix for pets shoving player characters off of rooftops. What will not be coming is the ability to switch deviations mid-battle.

That same post also talks up changes to social features that are in the works like a filter feature to help players manage overloaded global chat, opening private chat to those outside of a friends list, and improving the ability for friends to team up if they land on different worlds.

Speaking of pets behaving badly, there’s a video below that highlights what deviations get up to while the player is away from their base.
