In its recent post on the topic, Riot isn’t sugarcoating the numerous price hikes coming to Riot’s various games including Valorant and League of Legends. Right at the start of the post, the studio admits that what it has to say is mostly unpleasant, since it’s an increase in prices for multiple games across numerous regions. Brazilian prices are going up across the board; same for Ukraine, Japan, Taiwan, China, South Korea, and numerous other countries. A few places are seeing price decreases (such as the United Kingdom) but they are far and away the exception.
So why the changes? Riot says it’s all about maintaining price consistency across regions and ensuring that someone buying something in Brazil sees the same price as someone converting to USD and playing with a VPN. That doesn’t make it better, of course, but the post also announces that a bonus amount of currency will be given to in-client purchases in regions with price increases in most regions. So while it’s bad news, the goal is clearly to mollify fans who will now have to pay a bit more.
