Whenever Hello Games’ Sean Murray starts dropping teasers on social media, you know something good is coming to No Man’s Sky: Today, the studio has announced three separate chunks of good news and content coming to the online pseudo-MMO sandbox.
First, the devs have released cross-save implementation, which basically means you can play the same version of your game on all platforms. And for No Man’s Sky, that’s a lot of platforms: PC, PS4/5, Xbox One/X|S, the Switch, Steam Deck, PS VR 1/2, and PCVR, and so forth.
“This has been a huge undertaking, and is one of most requested features,” Hello Games writes, saying it’s been working on the feature for the last half year. “Being able to jump seamlessly between platforms is really transformative. Players can play from the comfort of their sofa on console, continue an Expedition on the move with Switch or Steam Deck, build an incredible base on their beefy PC rig, and view it in incredibly immersive Virtual Reality.” Do note that you’ll need to actually connect all their platform accounts together to make use of it, and the feature is open to a small number of users today with a full rollout to follow “in the coming weeks.”
Second, No Man’s Sky is releasing an enhanced version of the game for PS5 Pro alongside its launch tomorrow; expect sharper res at higher framerates, improved lighting, better reflections, and better ambient occlusion too. PSVR2 players will also be able to take advantage of this build.
And third, time for a collab, though this is a very reasonable ones: Mass Effect’s SSV Normandy SR1 has entered the No Man’s Sky chat, again. A new time-limited expedition will allow new players – Hello Games mentions Switch and “an increasingly large number of Chinese fans” explicitly – a chance to pick up the fabled ship.
“It was back in 2021 that the Normandy made its first appearance in one of the first expeditions we ever ran. The limited-time expedition starts today, runs for two weeks and culminates in players being able to claim the Normandy for their fleet.”
