The blockchain sandbox MMO EVE Frontier appears to be desperately wanting to remind players that it has gameplay to offer and not just a funny money mine linked to pointless digital scarcity (aka blockchain tech). Case in point, its latest dev blog, which focuses in on the expanded gameplay space in its latest test build and things players will have to consider.
The so-called Phase V test build has added 22,223 stars, each with their own collection of planets, moons, asteroid belts, and megastructures for players to try to find. They will have to exercise caution in doing so, however, as they will have to carefully manage their ship’s fuel, consider the possible dangers of existing inhabitants and other players, and contend with the “soft pressure” of over-expansion unless players work together to survive.
As settlements are found and established, the blog notes that they may not be permanent fixtures all the time, as shifting resources, infrastructure needs, and a crude matter mechanic can potentially crumble a settlement if its inhabitants aren’t careful. It all reads a bit more conceptual than mechanical, but it does focus on gameplay – and appears to try to smokescreen the fact that this is a blockchain-linked game.
Phase V has concluded! As we look forward to December and the advent of Founder Access, here's a new dev blog about the universe of the Frontier and the potential ramifications of its design.
Stay tuned for more information about our upcoming Closed Alpha!…
