The Daily Grind: Do you say goodbye when you leave MMOs?

going so fast like a... whatever

In the long long ago, it was so common for MMORPG players to leave a goodbye letter to their guild or server when quitting a game that it spawned whole memes, like the “can I have ur stuff” meme. I haven’t seen it quite so often these days, perhaps because so much server communication has moved to Discord. And yet I saw one on Reddit a while back. He was promptly roasted for his openness (it was the MMORPG subreddit) and deleted the whole thing, though you can still read it elsewhere, but it stood out to me because the poster told a tale so many gamers have experienced: His guild went from active to inactive overnight, and it crushed his spirit for playing MMOs. He wanted to say goodbye, but everyone was already gone, so he said goodbye on Reddit instead.

“In a perfect world we would all be friends forever and the long days would never end. But the world isn’t perfect. Days end. People change. Priorities shift. Time moves on. Enjoy the moments when you have them and the people who you share them with. I’ll miss what I had, and I did enjoy it.”

Aww, dangit.
