Dauntless showcases some of the new weapon abilities landing with today’s Awakening update

Today is the day when Dauntless finally gets its long-awaited Awakening update, which brings a whole bunch of new things to the co-op hunting RPG’s table. Ahead of the new release, developer Phoenix Labs has put out one last dev blog about the revamp’s features, this time with a focus on some of the new weapon abilities to look forward to.

The studio points out that there are too many new skills to list, but it does at least provide some intriguing-sounding examples, with highlights for the umbral-aspected Netherlights chain blades that let players rip open damaging umbral rifts or siphon health from a Behemoth, and the new (and battle pass-locked) Alluring Moons pistols that effectively let players summon forth aggressive raptors known as chaoxes.

The post further calls attention to the new weapon swapping ability and how it effectively lets players refine their builds to either double down on an element, split up elemental attacks, or cover close and long ranges. It also makes sure to showcase some of the specific combos that players can use when they swap weapons, especially some of their new stylish animations. Additionally, both weapons will generate the same XP while they’re brought along, and part breaking has become more logical: cutting weapons sever tails, blunt weapons break horns.
