It turns out that Stardew Valley has spent the past several years seeing little slowdown to its momentum: Nine years after its release and after its lone developer swore he was really done after the game’s massive patch 1.6, the title has hit an impressive 41 million units sold across its lifetime. That’s a lot. And it coincides with Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone admitting he still has ideas for what to do with the game and that he may wind up working on it for the rest of his life.
For those of you who want to convince yourselves that not that many people are willing to play a game in which you pretend to farm for years on end, it is 41 million sales combined across all platforms, so maybe everyone just bought the game nine separate times including on a PlayStation Vita and both an Android and an iOS device! It could be true! (It really, really couldn’t.) Everyone else can just celebrate that the game has insanely long legs, especially if you long for more content updates even after it was supposed to be done for real this time.
