When I first dipped my toe into the Star Wars Galaxies Legends rogue server two years ago, the game routinely hovered around a peak of 1000 concurrent players. Since then, it’s ballooned to double that, causing server lag and necessitating hardware upgrades in the best possible way, as new players flocked back to the game. Now, the players and admins are hosting an event to welcome all those newbies, get them into guilds, and gear them up with starter packs.
There are two such events this weekend, one beginning at 3:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday, and another at 5:00 a.m. EDT on Sunday, aimed at serving multiple time zones. In-game, you’ll need to head to Mos Eisley, Tatooine (it’s where the tutorial sends you); when you land, type /waypoint 3263 -4741 for a pointer right to the theater. If you were thinking about giving it a spin, now is the time.
YouTuber Napyet has a video up about the event, with footage from one of the earlier ones (and it was packed even back then!). “Crucially, the people there want to talk,” he says. “When you’re trying to get a hold in an MMO, some people are doing their own thing, right? Well, an event like this – everyone is here for the same reason.” You want to be social in an MMO? You’re not alone. Here ya go!
SWG Legends, we note as always, is one of many (many) rogue servers for Star Wars Galaxies, the MMO formerly created by SOE (now Daybreak) and sunsetted in 2011 just days before the launch of SWTOR. These emulators have now run unmolested and unfettered for many years, in spite of being unauthorized. (At this point, we suspect the open support of no less than George Lucas’ son might have something to do with it.)
