Shroud of the Avatar’s Release 81 adds a new town, new lava fish, and flexible block building features

Release 81 for Shroud of the Avatar is out this week and it’s got some new goodies for pretty much everyone in the game, whether you’re someone who enjoys building things with blocks, someone who enjoys fishing things from lava(!), or someone who has Episode 2 Access and is ready for a new town to check out.

For those Episode 2 Access holders, there’s the town of Tanglemire to explore, an outpost town that’s beleaguered by the influence of some shadowy beasts in the nearby forest that players will (naturally) have to confront. The current release will have two repeatable quests, with plans for more quests as development of the scene continues, while the town will ultimately fall somewhere in the middle of the Mistrendur storyline.

As for everyone else, Release 81 has added four new lava fish that can be fished out of the magma that range in size from “pretty large” to “heckin’ dinosaur-sized” as well as a variety of new magma fishing spots, and has made building block placement more flexible by letting larger blocks be stacked on top of smaller ones and allowing for more overhang. So now players can fish in more lava and create the nonsensical cairns of their dreams.

Additionally, the latest update post has given us a much clearer look at the in-development addition of mounts, so now we can all enjoy that sweet backflip mounting action without the squished aspect ratio and Twitter video buffering. Hurrah.
