Call us pleasantly surprised that a 2-D top-down battle royale game featuring murderous animals warring it out in an abandoned park has made it to a seventh season. The game we’re referencing is Super Animal Royale, which has put out its newest season this week filled with health-conscious cosmetics, a photo booth, and super lemurs. Clearly, this one follows the beat of its own drum.
For those who are unfamiliar, Super Animal Royale pits 64 players into solo or team matches where they much “fight tooth, claw, and machine gun across an abandoned safari park,” finding weapons, armor, and items along the way. The game offers hundreds of animal breeds with thousands of cosmetics to collect, and releases new animals, weapons, and goodies every season.
That brings us to Season 7 and its highlighted Super Healthy Pass, which offers 49 tiers of fruit and health-themed items to collect. The update also adds a juice factory location to the map, introduces six breeds of the new super lemur animal, kicks off an Easter event, and introduces a new super juicer powerup. There’s also a new photo booth full of features to let players snap shots of their collected animals or those they’ve played with for some photogenic downtime fun.
All told, Super Animal Royale appears to have found its playerbase, with many Steam reviews gleeful about it – one even makes the important note that it has a capybara. And while its player numbers on Steam might not be setting the world on fire, it’s also free-to-play and playable on console and Mac (which is likely how it counts 9M players). Also, it reached a seventh season, which is arguably pretty good when stacked against the attrition this sub-genre usually sees.
