ArcheAge War isn’t just a delayed blockchain mess: It’s also the subject of a new lawsuit.
According to The Korea Times, NCsoft has filed a complaint in the Korean courts against XL Games and Kakao over what it alleges is copyright infringement and unfair competition.
“NCsoft confirmed that ArcheAge War, released by Kakao Games and XL Games on March 21, imitated numerous features and systems from NCsoft’s flagship game Lineage 2M,” NCsoft says. “NCsoft is determined that ArcheAge War has unlawfully copied and plagiarized NCsoft’s intellectual property beyond the similarity of the genre.”
Kakao has apparently not yet commented. As The Times reminds us, XL Games’ Jake Song was a prominent dev on the original Lineage over two decades ago.
NCsoft is no stranger to going to court to protect the Lineage brand; MMO readers will recall that it famously – and successfully – sued developer Bluehole over stolen assets and code pilfered from the in-development Lineage III for Bluehole’s MMO TERA.
