Welcome back to MassivelyOP’s not-so-serious end-of-the-year awards as we present our award for Best Worst MMO Mascot. Yes, it’s the Golden Yachties series, named in honor of those bright sparks absolutely convinced that video game blogging is a lucrative career and we’re all sailing ’round the world on ships of gold. (Stay in school, kids.)

And the winner is…

LOTRO’S ERRANT ROCK

At the end of 2022, one of the most amusing stories of the year arose when Lord of the Rings Online accidentally deposited a stray boulder in Bree-land and the players went bonkers for it: They used it as a stage, named it Dwayne Johnson, and begged Standing Stone (yes, the company is called Standing Stone) not to take it out, which it did because ol’ Dwayne was blocking travel routes.

So why am I dredging all of this back up at the end of 2023? Did I forget what year it is? Nope! It’s because this year, SSG found a way to stick it back into the game as a yard decor piece that everyone can now purchase for a few silver and plop into housing spaces in memory of the goofy mistake that became a meme. The Memorial Great Greenway Rock thus becomes the best MMO mascot of the year.
