New World begins PTR testing of Season of the Guardian and its cooking overhaul today

It’s PTR day over in Amazon’s New World, as Season of the Guardian – or some of it, anyway – reaches players’ test clients today.

As announced earlier this week, the final season as planned will include the Winter Rune Forge trial, new artifacts, controller support, crafting revamps, the last MSQ revamp, Outpost Rush mounts, and of course, the season pass itself, and according to the PTR patch notes, it’s all in this iteration already.

“The entire New World main story questline is now fully updated from end to end, based on player feedback,” Amazon says. “Improvements have been made across the board to the story campaign, including the new player starting area. Experience fresh narratives, more quest variety, and a few new surprises as you make your way through an epic story and its nail-biting conclusion.”

The patch notes include a range of balance adjustments, tweaks for the mount system, and way more detail about the crafting upgrade than we got on Monday. The studio is calling it “cooking simplification,” and it involves the removal of split attribute foods, merging of crafting and gathering food into one tier, buffed recipes to provide more meals, increased XP and ingredients for recipes, revamped recipe drops, buffed T5 foods… it’s a lot.

And if you’re angling to see how OPR works when everyone’s riding a mount, there’s a PTR event planned for February 23rd.
