Neverwinter talks Never Castle’s big baddy

So... you guys wanna party?
Who’s afraid of the big bad demon? In Neverwinter’s latest dev blog, Senior Content Designer John Hopler described the big baddy of Never Castle himself: Demon Prince of Undeath, Orcus. Orcus apparently is unfulfilled and feels something is missing. Even with an entire city of enslaved mind flayers as pets, he wants more. And what he wants is a dragon to call his own. It just so turns out that Never Castle has one. Cue the adventurers who want to stop that from happening.

Hopler reveals that players will get a preview of all of Orcus’ powers in the various fights leading up to the boss encounter. Once you reach that end, Orcus will unleash Chains of Undeath (which might be cozy if you ever wanted to be chained to a groupmate, minus the massive magical explosion, of course), call forth floating Spheres of Annihilation that chase players down, and even plunk down a larger, stationary Death Sphere that is pretty much is exactly how it sounds. Oh, and Orcus also opens rifts into the Abyss to gain more power forcing part of the party to jump in and fight those demons.

If you still aren’t afraid and are champing at the bit for this new challenge instead, you’ve only got to wait until The Maze Engine launches on March 15th for all this fun to be yours.
