Cast your mind back to summer 2021, and you might recall that was when World of Warcraft’s Craig Morrison – best known to MMORPG players for his key role at Funcom during its MMORPG heyday (Anarchy Online, Age of Conan, and The Secret World) – announced that he was parting ways with Blizzard after after more than seven years with that company. He apparently worked for DICE after that and left earlier this year. And now we know where he’s landed: Blue Scarab Entertainment, a small studio which is building — get this — an original IP MMORPG “with a unique blend of cozy escapism and true-crime.”
Morrison is the Studio Director and seems pretty pumped about the project: “Personally, after years on huge AAA teams, it’s a refreshing change to be working with a small close knit team again. Looking forward to sharing more as we move forward. It’s a fun and interesting challenge we’re aiming to bring to life. So stay tuned!”
Blue Scarab is headquartered in Stockholm and received over $7 million in seed investment from NetEase for its story-driven unnamed MMO. Its first game “puts players in the saddle as they discover a beautiful open world on horseback and uncover a dark mystery together.”
