World of Warcraft’s “weekly reset” on Tuesday eventually became the anchor point around which entire routines were built, including mine. I like the predictability of this, as it allows me to map out a week in the game and allow me to pick and choose what I want to do with that. Already a couple months into The War Within, I feel like I’m settling into a comfortable seven-day pattern that still allows me flexibility for whatever else strikes my fancy.
Yet in LOTRO, I have no routine, just general goals to pursue, and so the feel of that experience is a lot different. Less arcade “check all the task list options” and more “ongoing meandering journey.” So I guess I live both lives here.
Do you fall into (or embrace) the pattern of a weekly MMO routine in your gameplay, or are you more freeform in your day-to-day gaming sessions?
