Earlier this year, when City of Heroes Homecoming first scored a license to operate from NCsoft, my kid fell hard into econ PvP over there. I can’t really blame him, either; I also love that game’s auction hall system and how it rewards patience, cleverness, and math. He was logging in to flip auctions every day, not even really to play. And then one day, he just… didn’t. He’d been super obsessed, and then it just fizzled to nothing.
This happens to me in so many games, but it’s easier to see when it happens to someone else, especially to a kid under your care. Have you let go of any old MMORPG obsessions? What were they, and was it a gradual shift or overnight event?
Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
