So listen, I know that MMORPG graphics are in the eye of the beholder. I’m asking you to be the beholder today. Some people love cutesy stylized graphics, and some people will not rest until every pixel is coated in hyperrealistic blood.
I want to give a shout-out to New World in 2024. Regardless of my opinion on the rest of the game – and the weird thing about the game’s faces notwithstanding – Amazon did a super job touching up the game’s overall graphical vibe in time for the console port. Every video it did with fly-overs through the game world really struck me with how stunning the game is. It looked truly tasty on my TV. And yet, in my memory of launch, it was brown and dingy. I wasn’t expecting the glow-up!
