If you were looking to experience Monster Hunter on your mobile device, the only option you’ve really had is Niantic’s mobile ARG Monster Hunter Now. That’s going to change in the near future, however, as Capcom and Tencent-owned studio TiMi Group have unveiled Monster Hunter Outlanders, a new mobile title that seeks to bring a more typical open world hunting experience to pocket devices without forcing people to go outside and locate critters in their immediate geographical location. But seriously, get some sunlight when you can or take vitamin D supplements if you can’t.

Outlanders is described as an “open world survival game” for up to four players where fans can openly explore a substantial-looking map, craft individual gear and tools, and engage in a hunting experience that should be familiar to series vets. The press release from the game also notes “all-new character collection,” which does read like there might be some gacha monetization involved, but there are no details being shared right now; all that’s happening is a drip feed of teasers on Twitter as fans spread its reveal trailer online.

Of course, none of this is to suggest that Monster Hunter Now is going away. In fact, the game has shared a rough roadmap for its next two seasons: Season 4 is coming in December with the promise of more monsters, a new habitat, new weapon types, and a loadout feature update. After that is the Season 5 launch for spring 2025, though information on its offerings will have to wait for sometime later.
