MapleStory-like WonderKing is resurrecting globally after 13 years offline

Watch out MapleStory, for there’s a “new” 2-D MMORPG that’s aiming to take a shot at your niche market. WonderKing is an upcoming free-to-play title that shares the same chibi art style and side-scrolling action combat along with classes that evolve over time.

What’s interesting here is that this marks a revival, as WonderKing originally came out in 2007 in South Korea (followed by a 2010 western release), but fully shut down in 2012. Thanks to a shuffling of rights back to the original developer, WonderKing is able to give it another shot now in 2025.

WonderKing begins with basic classes that can advance into multiple specialized paths as the character levels up. Each job has its own unique skills and combat style, allowing players to enjoy diverse gameplay experiences,” studio Dreamideasoft said.

While there are no announced dates for WonderKing’s upcoming testing and launch, the game is accepting pre-registrations right now and will handsomely reward you with a 30-day pink teddy bear mount for signing up.
