Well, it’s official: No one gets to act as if e-sports or video games are anything less than mainstream at this point. Legendary Entertainment, the film studio that brought out Inception, Pacific Rim, and some excellent Batman movies (and Warcraft, but let’s not be mean) is making a movie about e-sports. Starring Will Ferrell. In a role that, apparently, is meant to be “similar” to his role in Talladega Nights.
The movie doesn’t yet have a title or a release date or anything of the sort, but when Will Ferrell stars in a comedy about an industry, you can be fairly certain that it passed the mainstream quite some time ago. On the plus side, it may be a film that people will like even if they normally haven’t got the slightest use for e-sports, so make of it what you will.
