RIFT previews the playstyle and souls of the Primalist

RIFT has done pretty well for itself with four specific callings since launch, and that means that the Primalist has a lot to live up to. It has to feel like it’s something very different right from the start, something that couldn’t just as easily be turned into a soul for one of the other callings. A preview of the new calling emphasizes that it comes down, in part, to the dual-resource system of the Primalist, with Fury and Cunning both altering the performance of the Primalist’s abilities in combat depending on playstyle.

Primalists will wear leather armor and use two-handed weapons, although the preview clarifies that these weapons are frequently more like foci than the emphasis of their gameplay. Six souls are also coming with the calling, with one focused on tanking (Titan), one focused on healing (Preserver), and the others focused on varying forms of dealing damage (Vulcanist, Berserker, Dervish, Typhoon). Take a look at the full preview for more details on how the Primalist holds its own.

I used to like Rift. I actually played a lot, and non stop with my mage from 1 to 60 just right before the new exp came out.

Then the new expansion came and hell… what a fu***ing grind. I’m not a hardcore player, but I used to play my good 2 hours a day, maybe more. And even like that it took me a whole week (or more) to make it to lvl 61, and another 2 to make it to lvl 62. No quest hubs, just the same old boring ‘kill one guy and get a quest to kill another 14’.
I dont mind slow lvling, but grinding and boring content I do mind. Left the game alone, maybe will come back if the xp is boosted somehow.

rafaelmizar bryanjturner I gave up on the game when their big hyped ‘Nightmare Saga’ turned out to be trite self-reference that (at least for the first chapter..I ended up stuck at the rediculous boss fight in the last mission, and haven’t bothered playing since) in the penultimate mission has you producing and chasing mobile flaming feces. Unless they’re ripped that out and replaced it with something better, it’s not worth it anymore.

KirkSteadman Higgens Zariarn Dope_Danny Thats fine and good, Im just saying. Its kind of proving the point that the game runs like ass.

Higgens Zariarn Dope_Danny   KirkSteadman is right.  It’s just a graphics booster.  It also takes some of the Antiliasing load off the card and puts it into the sweetfx.  You will find it helps with many other games as well.

Higgens Zariarn Dope_Danny Sweet FX is just a graphic booster, it doesn’t optimize that game in any way as far as I know.

Zariarn Dope_Danny Having to use a 3rd party program to get a game to work right on rigs built for games is the very definition of “not working”

Dope_Danny Works find for me.  I recommend using SweetFx 2.0 and this setting to make the game really pop.

Dope_Danny Same, my laptop is hardly amazing but it runs Skyrim fine, in Rift with almost everything on minimum is struggles. It’s not even a pretty MMO, I have no idea how they managed to make it run so poorly. It contributes to the feeling I always get with Rift – it’s a potentially amazing game that gets completely screwed over by a few small problems nobody feels like fixing.

fangGWJ bryanjturner … which wasn’t even worth it. Ok, unless you were a PvP rogue.

Higgens Dope_Danny Yeah I played RIFT on 3 different PCs since launch, all made for gaming, and it never ran fully smooth, not even a day. The weird thing is my framerate actually indicates that it’s high all the time, but there is still this… stutter, or something. RIFT is the only game where I ever had this issue.

Dope_Danny Yes, its still kind of shit in that regard.

I hate to sound like a douche but does the game still kind of run like shit even on good systems? Last i played in late storm legion even having the map open made the framerate completely shit itself. I’m rarely a graphics whore or care about fps but it was so unstable it constantly ruined my immersion, like bad framerate i can deal with if its constant, but constantly changing? its like a flickering bad tv reception.

Well pre digital tv that is.

Christ what a horribly dating thought.

I wonder if they will put access to the calling in a gamble box.

It will cost 5250 Credits in cash shop after 3.4 launch, that is 35$ i think. Primalist is not a class, it is an archetype and souls are the class. So with primalist we will get 6 classes, unlike other mmorpg where there is option to buy class, it is pretty cheap, I know at least 2 games where class cost about 20$ each.

Sorenthaz But the blog says that they’ll use Dex >.>
” Primalists are devastatingly powerful when equipped with gear that enhances their dexterity.”
Glad I don’t main a rogue, have one for bard spec (which is probably my favorite in the game) that I tool around on but that’s it.

bryanjturner It’s going for 5250 credits or 40$. If you are a patron (the optional sub) you get a 10% discount on it. Note that you can get it in game if you have about 7000-1000 plat on you (NA average price for 4-5 REX, no clue about EU).

…I skipping this one.

Greaterdivinity  Sounds like the stats Primalists use though are way different.  Unless there are Rogue builds that actually require stats that isn’t Dex.

While I agree anything more than $20 is too much… That’s not really how you use the term extortion.

Man, sucks to be rogues. They’re now the only calling to have to compete over armor pieces with another : /

I might pay 20 to 30 for it, any more is extortion as far as I’m concerned.
