SDCC 2017: Pantheon invites you to ‘Bring Friends’ in its new trailer

San Diego Comic-Con hasn’t been known for much of an MMORPG presence in years, but Pantheon is showing up with a trailer in tow, showing off pre-alpha footage from the game, including its landscapes, characters, and group combat. Because let’s be honest: If you’re following a game like Pantheon, you’re probably in it for the group combat.

“In a world of adventure and magic, where peril lurks in every corner and the elements themselves present a danger, rise up and take arms!” the narrator says. “But… bring friends.”

Enjoy!

In the end the question will be, “Is it fun to play”. Waiting forever in lfg is not fun obviously and combat plus animations need a hell lot of work from what i have seen in that video before they are fun to play. I like that project and the ideas they have but i do not see this game release any time soon.

When it comes promises of group focused game play in upcoming MMOs…

Yeah, I want to believe as well. I’m hoping they make combat good. What I’ve seen so far in the streams (like Cohh’s) makes it look extraordinarily boring. And that’s make/break for me.

This is so 2003 with slightly better graphics..

forced downtime, archaic game design, horrible gfx and animations even by 10 year ago standards, costing the same as a AAA title

yep, it definetly is another game from Brad I-snorted-95%-of-the-budget McQuaid

thrilling gameplay, and by thrilling we mean hilariously dated, slow and and boring.
featuring thousands of hours of content…and by content, we mean camping the LFG chat waiting for enough people to join so you can kill a single level 6 critter.

because for us oldschool means the worst part of old school without any of the good bits

coming soon to a parking lot near your studio’s office

You want the fabled Next Generation AAA MMO. Pantheon has never been intended to be that.

Let’s get out of the way the fact that I’m all in and will play Pantheon on Day 1.

Let’s get out of the way the fact that I know it’s in pre-alpha

Now, the animations are just horrible, and will keep this nice little indie game from reaching a decent size audience. I know they aren’t shooting for anything like WoW numbers, but they’ll still need to pay the bills. And I’m sorry, but folks won’t sub to a new game with 15 year old animations.

Just my two copper.

I agree with this. I have been so hyped about this for a long time. I love just about everything about it with the exception of animations/visuals. It looks straight up horrible and whilst I will try it regardless there are a lot of people out there who won’t even give it a shot based on visuals alone. My friends/family being part of that crowd honestly and they want this type of game to begin with. I really hope VR realizes this and does something about it before it is too late (now I might even be jumping the gun here and they have a lot of visual updates coming, like you said it is in pre-alpha), but I am not keeping my hopes up after seeing them release this “trailer” as something they think will entice players. Not sure if they are just delusional or actually think this video will do anything but make people in general shy away from the game.

Be fair – the 18 year old MMO game mechanics and forced grouping paradigm that are a main stay in Brad McQuaid’s design philosophy won’t help either. How many low pop worlds will he design and launch until he realizes that the niche MMO players who wants such a game to be like a second job with 10+ minute downtimes between fights where a random MOB can wander by and ruin your day; or who like to spend two hours LFG for a party aren’t large enough to sustain that kind of MMO?

This is V:SoH2 and V:SoH didn’t have enough of a following to be profitable even after SOE made it F2P.

People think the bugs did Vanguard in. I could put up with my Armor being over my head when I dismounted(lol). What drove me out was indeed the forced grouping. Your progress was tied to how many people are on and how many people are interested in helping you. I couldn’t deal with it anymore. I was back in WoW and stayed there until 2012.

I will still check out Pantheon because McQuaid is slightly crazy and slightly brilliant and incredibly ambitious with his world designs. You can already see it in the weather mechanics. However, I still think 6 people fighting 1 grunt looks a bit ridiculous.

Fun Fact: V:SOH is how I learned to OC GPUs. The current Hardware wasn’t ready for Vanguard.

Feels like every new western MMOs is this crappy graphics, clunky animations, 10mil crowdfunded budget, indie-ish game that doesnt move genre forward, but drags it backwards. There are some good lookers from Asia, but upcoming western fantasy MMOs are all just meh.

I wish there was something like Star Citizen for fantasy MMOs. With revolutionary graphics, jaw dropping scale and ambition. So that I was hyped about something again. I guess we’ll have to wait for 10 years when CD Project Red finishes Cyberpunk and finally decides to make witcher MMO

Sure there will be great looking fantasy MMOs from the Occident – when the developers find way to rise 150 000 000 like Roberts…

Plus, think for a moment that the price of a computer that can run Star Citizen on full graphical setting in midst of heavy PvP combat.

And the Asian MMOs aren’t that much better looking – they have just different take on the same cartoonish graphics.

Moonlight Blade, Lost Ark, Lineage Eternal, Age of Wushu 2, Monster Hunter World. Just few examples of upcoming asian online games that are better looking then upcoming western MMOs.

The last isn’t a ‘real’ MMO and as having played Age of Wushu, there are more important things than good graphics – like a decent translation of the text to English.

I’ve often wished NA developers would adopt the gorgeous, realistic graphics of Korean MMOs and combine it with gameplay Westerners enjoy.

Currently there’s two MMOs I have an eye toward. The first being Star Citizen, and the 2nd being Ashes of Creation, which is a fantasy title. The world looks like BDO’s graphics with heightened (and combined) gameplay systems we’re used to NA-side.

I like the way SC handles PvP, as it puts it in the hands of the consenting. Still waiting to see how PvP works in AoC. Devs stated they’ll give harsh penalties to gankers, but that’s never stopped players who set out only to grief in other open-world PvP titles. Players like that don’t care about consequences, and embrace them. That’s something devs fail to understand about some of the player base. However, it’s supposed to be a sub game, and that will deter a large segment of that demographic.

If these 10 mil crowdfunded budget, indie-ish games drag the genre backwards from where it’s been heading for the last decade or so, I’ll gladly put up with crappy graphics and clunky animations. Oh, sure, Pantheon will be a fairly niche game catering to a crowd that hasn’t had any new MMO truly hook them in years, but is there anything wrong with that?

Reader

Would be nothing wrong if we had AAA modern MMOs in development too. Well, we have one in space sim category, but nothing for fantasy.

Cryptic’s “the next generation” (yes, they claim it themselves) Magic the Gathering MMO?

You Familiar with Citadel: Forge with Fire? Good looking Sandbox MMORPG from the West.

It looks mediocre at best

its not a MMORPG, rather a survival MO. also, we know next to nothing about it besides a trailer that was specifically made to make the game look good,if I were you I wouldnt expect the actual game to be anything like that or actually have 25% of the content shown
