Destiny 2 PC preloading has begun, while console daily logins decline

PC fans, your time is almost here: You’re finally getting a Destiny game on your platform. In fact, if you’ve already purchased Destiny 2, then get thee to the preload: Just boot up the Battlenet app and get moving.

Still need to buy it? Green Man Gaming still has the PC edition for 15% off with the SUCHWOW10 code. We’re told that while folks who buy it that route (it’s not an affiliate link, just a good deal) will be getting their keys by tomorrow so they can hop into the downloading frenzy too.

And while you wait? Ponder the discussion on Reddit, where Destiny 2 console players are monitoring what appears to be a hefty (though probably not unexpected by anyone who watches the MMO industry) decline in the console playerbase already. (Thanks, Danny!)

Declines already. MMO’s just are not made correctly these days. Thats why early MMO’s had low to medium player base at release and slowly grew. I don’t know 1 modern mmo that has even 1/3 of the players it had at launch. Stop making casual garbage mmo’s that look pretty but play like crap. GW2 I’m looking at you.

The gear progression – leveling up individual pieces to unlock unique perks used to be a big reason people played on the PVE side in D1…that system is gone, replaced with a bland over arching power level, that I personally grew tired of pretty quick.

I really don’t care though, I thought the base game was fun, played the hell out of it…I would have skipped the grind whether the gear level system was there or not…

Whoa! I just thought to boot up the blizzard.net launcher this morning to check on Destiny 2, when lo and behold I found out I could pre-download it.

Then I just found this article right after that. I missed the boat getting here, but great minds think alike, Massively. :)

It’ll be interesting to see what this population decline means. A decline was inevitable but I’m not certain this decline is just business as usual.

The PC release certainly doesn’t help. I got about 100 hours out of the console release with my console only friends, but now that they’ve moved on I have zero desire to log in. I’m just going to wait for the PC release.

The game also has problems. PvP is fine in Trials but is really lacking for casual play. PvE at the endgame encourages repetition of public quests instead of strikes. The raid is fantastic, but it’s a once a week affair and you are still coordinating everything outside the game.

And there’s nothing really new relative to Destiny, which is driving a lot of players to finish the raid and then wait until the next DLC. It really needs an extra hook, particularly with PvP being less popular in the 4v4 format.

honestly i bought this back in July, got he beta. Now even though the beta key shows and it was the 60 dollar pack on HB, its not showing or letting me pre load. It wants me to buy again. As someone who never uses bliz or bungi app this is very confusing.

did you buy it from the bliz launcher or another retailer? If it was another retailer, you need to get the retail key, and enter it into your blizzard account to preload.

*edit* didnt realize HB probably meant humble bundle store, so you need to check your Humble account and/or email for a new retail key and enter that. GMG just sent mine out last night, humble hopefully will soon if they havent already.

I never got an email from HB that my key was ready. I checked my key page on Wednesday and it was there waiting for me.

Still don’t understand delayed releases like this.
It only harms the game by missing the launch hype, asks for even more marketing budget, and ultimately will just lead to lower sales.

Not that it could much worse mind you, the game’s sales are down 50%+ all around already.

This probably wasn’t a business decision, but more of a capacity decision. There was likely some bottleneck of resources and they had to make the call whether to delay the launch of all platforms until the PC was ready to roll, or stagger the rollouts. You generally want to avoid staggered rollouts like that unless you have a compelling reason for why it’s a good idea (and sometimes it is).

My sense here though is that they couldn’t get the release candidate build qualified or had more QA to do — something.

As I said elsewhere, the Destiny games are “feast or famine” for content; it’s part of how they do things.

You get these big content drops, which you burn through in a sleepless haze like a mad beast if you’re a fan of the game — and then you wait X months for the next drop.

Sure, there’s repeatable content, and various forms of daily-mission, but once you’ve kinda got your character(s) where you want them, in terms of looks and gear, you’re basically just burning time until the next big content drop.

Plus, there are a lot of new game releases dropping between now and January, so even players who really enjoy the Destiny games (like myself) don’t log in as often as when there’s fresh content to play.

Welp it just randomly pre-loaded for me since I played the beta, I guess? And as a way to possibly entice me into buying it. Not really sure why I’d get it over just continuing to play Warframe at this point.

PC is god so suck it consoler’s!

But the PC version has no recoil, why does the “God” platform need the game to be made easier?

C’mon, Starbuck, you’re better than that. Trolling doesn’t suit you.

Who’s trolling if it is truth? Consoles will never out perform PC’s period. Every console game was developed on a PC. PC’s can be highly upgraded consoles can’t. I like consoles but in the end PC still comes out far ahead of the pack. The only reason Destiny 2 was released earlier on console is because of a crappy deal Activision made with Sony.

Who cares man, console players will be console players and PC players will be PC players.

Some enjoy both like me, i dont get why you have to act like a kid that needs to comment to provoke other people.
PC will always be the most advanced platform you can spend 700 euro or 7000 euro but who cares ?

All these comment sections are garbage due to people like you.

Who gives a shit what platform you play on as long as you enjoy the games you are playing ?

Like seriously grow up -_-

The game is fun. I enjoyed it far more than Destiny 1. The story is better, the combat is better and overall, it just flows. There was plenty to do along the way in terms of missions and side stories. I’ve finished the end of the storyline, gotten up to about 250ish on gear, got a few neat emotes and did some daily Strikes. Very enjoyable game and worth the price.

That said, I was watching “Honest Reviews” and a line summed it up perfectly where he said “Destiny 2 is the videogame equivalent of a bag of Cheetos” and “A great storyline that you forget in about five minutes after you’ve finished it.”

I swear, that was my exact experience and the thought of the difficult raids and grinding it out over/over just didn’t appeal to me after my time with Crota in 1. So yep, I’m pretty much done with Destiny 2.

My son is a Destiny freak, loves the PvP, played the crap out of D1 and even he went back to LoL for the past three weeks after hitting the cap. His main complaint is the PvP now is two weapons; some Midi Tool and something else (forget) and it’s not as fun as PvP in D1. He’s basically waiting until a patch/expansion before he picks it up again.

Reader
Anthony Dixon

Your son is correct, PvP is all about Mida Multi-tool and Uriel’s Gift, it’s really dull and has removed everything that made Destiny’s PvP unique.

Players are bored of the endless grind , not much to do at high levels or from what iv’e read somewhere else , you don’t get much rewards from doing the field events at max level. So you’re stuck doing instances over and over … And there’s that case with the skins being one time use compared to destiny 1 where they were limitless.

And the new raid doesn’t give any actual weapons just engrams …

Reader
starbuck1771

Well that’s kinda what happens when morons are in a hurry to burn through content. I pace myself so that doesn’t happen. When I reach max level I play another class. Then I wait til the expansions are released.

Reader
Anthony Dixon

You’d have to limit yourself to 5 minutes a week to pace yourself to have content to play until the first expansion launches.

I am waiting to see if my friends get it before I do, I was burned hard on the first Destiny. I’d buy it at retail (specific store) because the price is cheaper, but despite my curiosity, I have no great desire to jump right in again unless others are with me.

As for consoles dropping, not shocked. When Destiny first came out, half my Xbox friends list seemed to be playing it for a while, but now only a couple people might play Destiny 2 time to time.
Bungie burned that bridge hard with a lot of folk, especially on Xbox.

If the game has been out a month and a half and is only just now seeing noteable drops in player counts, that sounds like a great deal. I hope Destiny 2 provides me with at least a solid year of frequent play, but if I ‘only’ get a month of play out of it, that sounds amazing. I do not last a month in most games.

Pretty sure I recall seeing data that showed its much more common for console gamers to abandon games to jump onto other games much more frequently than PC gamers as well. DLC will bring back those hordes of people I’d wager.

Im willing to bet some of that console player base decline, are people switching over to the PC side.

Some people prefer the PC platform, absolutely.

Speaking only for myself, I find I get better responsiveness when I play on console — I’ve never been very good at “keyboard Twister” — always hitting the wrong keys in those split-second moments. :-D

I could sit hunched up at my desk with a controller, but again, for me personally, that’s physically uncomfortable, so the PS4 works for me with the Destiny games.

If that’s the issue you may want to ask a doctor or therapist to check your motor skills as it sounds like you may have had some developmental issues. When I was a kid I had my motor skills checked every few years. I have big hands so I work well with normal keyboards but I hate laptops because they cramp up my hands because of the small keys. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_skill

Not to worry, Starbuck. It’s not so much a health issue, as a personal preference one.

Having the option of playing on a PC and a PS4, I just find that (for me) certain types of games simply “play better” (in terms of personal preference) on one system or the other for me.

Plus, my TV is newer and bigger than my computer monitor, so there’s that. :-)

I’m not actually a “couch console” gamer — I simply turn my computer chair to face a different part of the room, so it all feels like different flavors of the same fun to me.

The other reason why I’m grateful to have both a console and a PC option is that, frankly, I find my PC is expensive to keep upgraded over time.

With PC games, I have to check whether my system specs are up to the latest releases, whereas, with the PS4 it’s more “plug and play” — if it’s a PS4 game, it will work on a PS4.

So, thanks for watching out for me, but I’m okay physiocally. It’s more about “ease of use” for me.

Cheers.

Guaranteed, and probably the exact reason why Bungie/Activision delayed the PC launch.
