Master X Master Online is an NCsoft MOBA with a twist

MXMO

Are you curious about NCsoft’s Master X Master Online? Steparu’s put the game through its paces and has nice things to say about it, concluding that it’s different enough from the usual MOBA suspects to remain interesting.

Aside from the fact that it uses characters from NCsoft titles including Aion, Blade & Soul, and WildStar, the primary thing that sets MXMO apart is its dual-character tag system. You can swap out masters on the fly, which can save a match if you’re low on hit points and you happen to be proficient at another master in your stable.

Steparu covers everything from the controls to PvP to PvE in his impressions piece, so be sure to give it a read if you’re a MOBA fan.

Greaterdivinity I doubt that it’ll ever get a western release. NC isn’t the most popular company around here and a lot of characters a probably unrecognizable to this audience.

TitianHero No offence to you but i don’t think that such statement is viable. MOBAs are essentially RTS games from how development process goes and they require as much work as any game made from scratch (a lot). DotA was indeed a mod and all things provided, required limited (still i believe a lot) amount of work to make it what it is now.
In my opinion the real reason why we have MOBA boom is only financial and due to a trend( which i hope dies fast cause these companies got to learn that they can’t have the piece of cake they crave for so much).
DotA, LoL and now also Dota2(honor mention for HoN for esports history and Smite for creative approach) are literally the only games of this genre that have right to be successful on the field in longer term.

I really really wish developers reached for other genres when they want to make pvp oriented game featuring characters from their IPs. MOBA is just a safe way, really no need to convince suits that it’s gonna work..for now.

Fortunately the first signs of the fall are approaching as EA realized they can’t pull Dawngate. With all sympathy to other developers i think that the same fate is awaiting for Infinite Crisis, Strife and probably lots of other mobas i never heard of but they exist or are in development.

Ventreel because mobas are retardedly easy to make. remember, this is a genre that was born from a warcraft map editor….

what i like about that game:

the gameplay looks interesting (moving with WASD but aiming with the mouse).
seems like a hybrid and it looks real fun to play… (i usually hate standard mouse only mobas gameplay)

CthulhuDawg I don’t see how they’re any different from hotkey mmos, fps, rts, etc. It’s a genre.
