Remember how hot the vehicular combat genre used to be, especially in the ’90s with titles like Twisted Metal? Apart from the short-lived Auto Assault, we haven’t seen a big resurrection of this type of gameplay in the MMO space. However, that could be due for a change with the debut of Crossout by Gaijin Entertainment, the same studio behind War Thunder.
Crossout is a post-apocalyptic driving game where players create their own death machines and then attempt to shoot, ram, run over, and blow up the competition. It looks to be primarily a PvP title that includes “thousands” of vehicle builds, with parts like chainsaws, anti-gravity lifts, drones, and machine guns. The studio promises that players will be able to glory in the wreckage thanks to a damage model that not only shows the impact but affects the vehicle’s performance.
Currently the title is taking sign-ups on the website for those interested in participating in a future beta program.
