Explorer-centric Wander launches June 4th with new Hira form

33

Explorers rejoice! On June 4th, those who revel in the non-combat aspects of MMOs will be able to meander aimlessly through the wilds of Wander when it launches on Steam and on the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Asia. Players will start off lumbering across the lands as a tree, learning and communicating with others using Wander’s own glyph and drawing-based language, Rozhda, while discovering new sights and new forms to turn into. One of these forms is the newly revealed Hira form, a humanoid with fins and gills that swims, skydives, and rides other players in griffon form. Experience a taste of the Hira in the video below.

I’ve been watching this since forever. I don’t know what the hook is, yet. I mean, if it’s just walking around and changing shape, that may become boring. Is there a story? And perhaps are there puzzles to solve? Something like Uru with more parkour, shapeshifting, and so on would be my dream experience come true. And now I can’t get the image of a griff pecking irritatedly at Teledahn’s three button out of my head. (Spoilers?)
It could be brilliant. I want to believe that it will be. I just want to understand its raison d’etre. I don’t think that just walking around terrain generated areas and assuming new forms occasionally will hold my interest, despite how much I’d want it to. I seek stimulating, engaging, deep things. I can only hope t hat this will provide.
And even if it can’t, even if it is just shapeshifting around terrain gen’d areas? I’d have a bit of fun with that for at least a little while.
I see no caveats, here.

A super pretty relaxation/exploration mmo where you can transform into gryphons and tree people and sea monsters? I can’t say no. Even if it isn’t that interesting after the first few hours of game time, which is always a possibility, I’m still hyped… in the chillest way possible, of course.

When I read “rides other players in griffon form” I though that the player would be in gryphon form riding other players. xD Then I remember how annoying English is and started laughing.
I am pretty interested in this. For the sole reason that if it is focused on exploration.. there should be tons of fun stuff to uncover and beautiful vistas to see.

This game just looks so pleasant. I’m surprised it’s going to be released so soon, though! It really flew under the radar.
