Shroud of the Avatar offers a 10% pledge bonus for the summer

The more you spend, the more you... actually, continue spending.

Shroud of the Avatar has been offering its pledged testers regular updates for a while now, and that’s pretty darn cool. If you were originally unsure about pledging money to the game to see whether or not it could go the distance, it seems pretty obvious at this point that it can. And if you want to translate that satisfaction into pledging more money to the game, any amount pledged will receive a 10% bonus credit through the end of the summer.

This also coincides with the removal of several pledge tiers at the end of August, so there’s all the more reason to spring into action if those benefits interest you. A comprehensive list of what is and is not available is available in the game’s latest update, which also takes a look at designing the game’s large trolls and outlines the near future in terms of game and community events.

It’s hard to review this game, especially at the current state. I backed it with 150$, I still don’t know if I repent or not.
What I got disappointed with, it was the fact I was expecting UO2. But considering the game itself – it has an excellent communities, and it will offer an opportunity to every kind of player (pvp, pve, merchants, rares collectors, real estate broker, etc).
I tried it a few times but i can’t get hyped or sucked inside the game at the current state.
Maybe it’s because i’m still looking for the lost UO feeling. Maybe it’s because is not what i’m looking for as MMO experience. Maybe it’s too soon to judge. In any case they are putting a lot of efforts and they listen to players advices, at least.
We’ll see what the final product will offer..

Rustybladez  Yeah, the only backer I know basically got fed up with them (and apparently an issue with being treated like a second-class customer due to not backing at one of the multi-thousand dollar tiers.)  They also had similar complaints about the game outside that treatment.

SoMuchMass Actually, no, it’s the opposite.

Rustybladez Yeah, they still have a ways to go when it comes to polish.  It’s a nearly never-ending iterative cycle of development.  They have to continually go back and polish older scenes as they create new ones.  But that’s been known and acknowledged.  As they get better with creating this stuff as time goes by (along with adding new talent to the team), it’s a very valid point:  will they go back and polish all the older ones?  In some case, it’s a resounding yes (e.g. overworld map).  In other cases, some scenes haven’t changed at all, but if you follow the updates they are going back as much as they can.

But the larger question still remains:  how many more passes are they going to do on the older scenes before they call it “done” and simply launch?

I hope the devs are listening to this feedback.  While they have admitted they will favor gameplay over graphics, I think they are nowhere near done with optimization and can still improve the graphics considerably without sacrificing gameplay.

Rustybladez  As much as I wish it was the contrary, I have to agree with you completely. I had high hopes, like many, for that title.

Rustybladez I couldnt agree more with that, probably one of my most regrettable purchases on steam. Thank god it was only the basic price/entry point, even at that I feel robbed.
Ive installed it about 3-4 times to try and give it a fair crack of the whip but it has nothing to offer much as youve described, ugly ugly game=/

Fingers crossed for them & the people who do enjoy it that they manage to rustle something together though.

In the current state of the game I can’t see new zones being good when the old zones aren’t all that good.  I could compare the game to Echo of Souls but the combat animations of EoS is smoother.  Alpha you say, rework the animations eventually you say, then how will the new zones compare to the new character artwork?  Will they rework all the zones, too?  Which goes back to cleaning up existing zones before progressing.

Neither innovative, graphically attractive, or fun I can’t recommend this game.  Every patch feels just like the last patch.  What is junk is still junk with each patch adding more junk.  The game’s development focus isn’t in the right place for sure.

Certain sought after pledge levels were originally cheaper
than they currently are now so it goes some way to even things out, however if
you pledge after August 31st you will not receive all the rewards
that current backers do, like additional houses, basements plus Lord level and
above will only receive one rent free lot deed not two. It’s really the first
phase in phasing out the pledges before launch. So there really isn’t a better
time to pledge due to these changes plus the bonus credit.

So late backers are getting better perks/deals that original backers?
