RIFT is upping its subscription price slightly with its next patch

Price shark.

If you’re considering taking a break from RIFT and dropping your subscription for a month, you may not wish to do that. With the launch of patch 3.4, the game’s prices are going up a bit across the board, for everything from subscriptions to credits and REX. A preliminary price structure has been posted on the game’s official forums, with credits and REX receiving the biggest price hike. Monthly subscriptions remain unchanged, but multi-month subscriptions are becoming slightly more expensive (albeit cheaper than monthly subscription).

The good news is that if you’re already subscribed, your existing subscription price will be grandfathered in and will not increase, hence why you might not want to drop your subscription. The official reasoning is to standardize prices across all regions and make sure that all currencies provide the same value for the same exchange rate. So the game is getting a wee bit more expensive, although it’s hardly the sort of increase that will break the bank.

BalsBigBrother No, they want them to subscribe instead. Changing around the numbers so that the unchanged 1 month subscription is a better value, it increases subs, which creates a more stable income flow.

To be honest with you I never bought any credits on Rift store when I played the game heavily. I wanted to, but the prices were already fu*** up for me. I live in Poland, that means I don’t live on Euro and the exchange rate from Euro to Zloty (polish currency) is 4×1.
Now, imagine with this jump… no thanks no. Anyway, I kinda gave up on lvl 62 when it became an absolutely grindfest to lvl…

Telos_ I seriously doubt they’ll scare off their fans. Rift has some of the most.. err.. loyal… customers in the genre.
Pretty sure they could raise it to whatever they want and wouldn’t see much of a dropoff.

bryanjturner You’re asking this of a company who’s hyped ‘Nightmare Saga’ was trite slapping at gamers and culminated in chasing flaming poop.

Of course, you have to also keep in mind that the *only* benefits from subbing are a) Store discounts, b) XP, currency and other boosts, and c) convenience items like portable bankers and such.

Cant help but think that more people would sub and buy credits, if the actual game packs werent so ridiculously expensive. Serisouly, a $150 dollar pack for an expansion? Yes, I know there are packs for 50, but what you get in these packs isnt worth much, and certainly not worth the price they are asking. Its pretty clear Trion isnt making the money on them they had hoped to, and those who are buying them, are probably not having much money left over to pay for much of anything else.

bryanjturner  The increase mostly hits the EU folks, though the multi-month subs are increasing for NA as well.

OK, so any price hike(as small as they might be) is bad news, BUT speaking as someone who’s new to the game, I have to say I’m having a blast! You can play for free but there are some major cash-walls that are hard to ignore: earring gear slots/selling on the AH/bag slots/etc etc.

I have played just about everything and what I love about Rift is the big open world(I ran up a mountain for like 10 straight minutes until the main city looked tiny below me), the easter egg hunt of looking for artifacts, and, yes, the WoW-clone PvE style gameplay appeals to me, plus there is player housing, the Minions system is fun, too!

The graphics are dated, but to me they’re really nice!

Give the game a shot if you haven’t already, and, no, I don’t work for Trion; I really hated how they handled ArcheAge(although, not sure how much of that disaster was out of their control…).

Reading that article it said that the one month sub was going for $14.99 how is that an increase?
