An MMORPG is going to put any set of network architecture under an incredible amount of strain. It’s going to dropkick your netcode and force your development team to react quickly to a plethora of issues. So if you want to make it work, eventually you need to bite the bullet, turn on the servers, and let them run until they break. Das Tal is doing exactly that starting on October 31st, turning on its servers and leaving them up and running for eight straight days.
Supporters at the Harbinger or Vanguard level will be allowed to jump on and test the persistent servers alongside existing alpha testers, while those on the alpha waiting list may be given one of a limited number of slots. So it’s still going to be a small test, but with any luck it’s going to be a productive one.
