Albion Online ‘Aurelius’ beta update embraces the season

14

Just because a game is in beta doesn’t mean that it can’t bust out an event or two, right? Albion Online thinks so, anyway, and has added a couple of fun Christmas and New Year’s activities in its December Aurelius update. Snowball fight, anyone?

Aurelius is more about holiday frivolities, of course. The patch added three new dungeon types, 23 dungeons, keeper bosses, keeper mobs, safe zone hellgates, 10 spells, and the quarterstaff weapon.

The patch also added several quality of life upgrades, including forced combat mode, right-click movement, and dedicated chat channels. Talk away, you crazy MMO players!

2wenty2 XanadoX Well, I think I am not the best one to explain the system, but  if you go like a zerg you will be spotted as a red circle in minimap, so it will be very easy to avoid you( Unless, you are in a black zone). And devs have tried to give anti-zerg skills.

XanadoX  “Guild is mandatory.” Should read being in a “zerg guild is mandatory”.

Isn’t this pretty much just one more straw on the “beta isn’t really beta anymore, but more like launching with no quality control assurance” camel’s back?

The new update is pretty good.  They added a bunch like right-click movement and increased gathering amounts and the such but there is issues with the update as well.  Luckily the devs are pretty good about getting stuff fixed and letting the community sit and test things to see how different options work. So far having fun for my 4th test of this game, look forward to a larger world and more players coming in the closer to OBT we get.

CloakingDonkey Archebius This is a pretty good explanation.  Very grind heavy atm but a lot of fun if you like open world sandbox type games.  Worth a look or at least checking out their forums for more info.

Bashmet XanadoX not really but I will say finding a guild that isn’t a herd of asshats is a bit of a challenge ;)

Archebius it’s a crafting and PvP focused game. If that sentence doesn’t excite you, don’t bother ;)

If it does, it’s very much based on a system of gear progression. i.e. there are no real lvls… you unlock new tiers of gear by using the previous tier in combat and whatever you are wearing determines the abilities you have. So if you f.e. wear a set of medium armor, an axe and a torch you’re playing a very aggressive melee character, if you’re wearing heavy armour, an axe and a shield, you’re a self healing tank, if you’re wearing light cloth armour and axe and a book you’re a playing a shit character :P  The whole “swap your gear around” thing they keep saying is pretty much complete bollocks though because it takes a significant amount of time to unlock tiers of gear. Unlocking everything would require an absolutely sick amount of grinding. Crafting works in the same way, i.e. by crafting certain types of things you unlock being able to craft higher tiers of them and then you sell it to other people or give it to your guild. There is no gear that isn’t crafted.
