Star Citizen recaps December’s progress across all of its studios

13

Even as December 2015 is fading into the distance, Star Citizen has a few words to say about the progress its team made during the last month of the year.

Among the accomplishments listed by the various team include stabilizing the Alpha 2.0 release, coming up with a better way to handle itemization, evaluating the performance of the Freelancer, releasing the EMP system, revamping the Constellation Andromeda, and drawing up early designs of the Xi’an Scout and MISC Reliant.

And just in case you thought the team was sitting on its thumbs, check out what the devs had to say about all of the work done to get the new alpha patches out: “Over the course of the month we deployed fourteen 2.0.0 builds to the PTU, one deployment of 2.0.0 to live and four 2.1.0 deployments to the PTU. Supporting these deployments was a significant undertaking.”

It’s a very long report from all of the Star Citizen studios, so sit back, read it from top to bottom, and try to wrap your head around what it takes to make a game of this complexity.

GoJammit How will you be able to buy them when the game comes out, and can we speak to their specific rarity in any meaningful way at this time? Hours of play to obtain? Etc.?

I’m assuming those design details are either haven’t been formally documented, or revealed at this time. Which makes speculation on what the pain points, or likelyhood of acquiring them with or without money, irrelevant.

I want to like the Reliant, but it’s one of the ships that I feel has a Fisher-Price look/feel to it.
The Herald and Redeemer I don’t like either.

Every time Star Citizen releases a new version of software I can hear Obi-Wan Kenobi say, “I felt a great presence in stupidity, as if millions of trolls suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.”

If Arena Commander is anything to go by, the ships have less to do with winning than the actual weapons used. While it definitely helps that the hornet seem to be unreasonably sturdy, people using ballistic weaponry over energy seem to be winning the day. I took out a hornet in my mustang. And almost took out a Vanguard.
I don’t u sweat and how buying ships on eBay makes the game play to win. Bought from eBay or in the game it’s the same ship. The people spending all that money are simply impatient. The only special about the ship on eBay is that they are CURRENTLY limited. When the game comes out, anyone can buy them. And as the owner of the constellation in my match found out, sometimes a bigger ship just mean a bigger target. Damn I wish I had recorded that one.

When they start working on the alien race experience post-launch it should bring Citizen to yet another plateau never before seen.

Smiggins I think the accusations of vaporware are just trolling .

The real questions are whether it will have to secure funding from a major developer eventually before they can finish it or whether will people will keep crowdfunding the game .

The next question is when it will be released . When we discussed it in these forums recently most backers of this game seemed to think a 5-6 year development schedule seemed to be average and given the current state of the game a release this year or next seems unlikely for the mmo component of the game which puts it at 2018 as an earliest release date . Given a game with this sort of backing and an it being a new are untested development company I believe that could easily stretch into 2019 or the early 2020’s .

The other pertinent question is about how pay to win this game will be with ships being sold openly on ebay at the moment and people investing in the game getting access to superior vessels before it releases . I am reserving judgement on this till the game releases because when talking to those who are investing in the game they seem to want to gloss over the issue . I will judge it for myself as to whether it is pay to win by my own personal definition . ( for me it has to be a game with a strong pvp aspect and being able to buy significant advantages in game also being able to sell ships on ebay openly without breaking the rules of the game is something I would also consider pay to win ) .

Lots of questions hanging over this one at the moment but I think if they can deliver what is promised without falling into the pay to win trap then it could be an amazing game . I guess time will tell .

Oleg Chebeneev Not really one of the first, no.  It was only unlocked as a stretch goal at 21 million, October 2013.  The concept art first appeared, I believe, in November 2014, but I’m not 100% certain about that.  I’m fairly certain the original line of ships like the Hornet, Aurora, Origin 300 series and Constellation as well later additions like the Avenger and some others had concept art before the Khartu-al Xi’an scout.
