Paragon’s guide to cards for testers

Getting carded.

Pretty much every MOBA has some system in place for upgrading your chosen hero as you play. Paragon is making use of a card system, and a new video from the development team is all about how that card system is meant to work over the course of a match. It’s not quite as random as the concept of decks might seem, but it does mean picking out upgrades and improvements with care.

All players start with three card points to buy and equip cards from their decks, meant to be spent on the starting array of health and mana potions. As the match gets underway, characters will gain a larger number of points, up to the maximum of 60 per match. This can be used to both draw and equip new cards as well as upgrading existing cards. Take a look at the video below to see all of this in action.

Walpurgisnacht Then watch the video? It would take… I would say… 3 minutes and 15 seconds to figure it out.

I’m in the beta and have played it here and there. I have absolutely no idea how the card system works and I really wish they just went with the item system + rune page in other MOBAs. This card stuff is just dumb.

They seem to be confusing you guys with the card system. It’s pretty easy it’s not the same in paladins as you can still upgrade skills in Paragon. the deck system is like picking 5 items you that are good with this character, they even have pre-built decks like support or tank and so on.

Gameplay looks pretty cool actually, but if it’s doing a card system similar-ish to Paladins then… bleh.  If it’s another RNG in-game progression thing like Paladins, then no thanks.

That’s a shame. I was really interested in this game until now.

This video was very slow and hard to pay attention to. I don’t need the typical youtube crazy fast ADHD video, but something as slow as this is just…bleh. I feel like the info in this could have been condensed to 30 seconds or less.

PurpleCopper I just don’t understand why everything needs to be cards in videogames. Say what you want about how the systems actually operate, but the word “cards” and “deck” feels so out of place in a game like this. I don’t get why so many games have “cards” that aren’t TCG.

Bleh, they should just stick to a simple upgrade tree for skills and perks.

Not sure yet how I feel about the “Card” system since this is a thing that directly affects your stats and customization options across all matches. If different players had access to different items in the in-game item shop in Dota or League I would not be happy with that implementation, but this game is still super early to say anything is too broken.
Didn’t get a chance to play it on “CBT5” last week, but in CBT4 it seemed promising.
