Exploring Camelot Unchained’s siegecraft system

How will sieges work in Camelot Unchained? Massively OP reader and YouTuber CloakingDonkey dug into the last official livestream to pull out the good stuff, including the facts that individual realms will have their own siege weaponry and the reality that attackers and defenders will be relatively well balanced.

And before you ask, nope — we still don’t know when exactly beta one begins. Watch on below!

Samizdat breetoplay paragonlostinspace What is a fascinating process to you is “LOL LOOK AT THE GARBAGE 90s GRAPHICS #nothx” to others. You’d be surprised how many people judge games by the very first thing they see about them and never look at them again.

As soon as I am legally allowed to I will shower the internet in as much footage as I can though ;)

Well, I am hoping this doesn’t violate the terms of the NDA, but I wanted to share some double-secret pre-alpha siege footage from the game with the MOP faithful.

breetoplay Samizdat paragonlostinspace Sure, but that goes away as more companies become transparent and more of the production stage is exposed. There’s nothing to hide about it — it’s a fascinating process. I’ve already seen far more of an accepting attitude of pre-release content display since the rise of Early Access and as companies began dropping NDAs. You can go on Twitch right now and watch people making games in real-time, which you could never do before.

Demystifying the experience means more people have a better understanding of how games are made, and how they could get involved if they want to. It means more games to choose from in the long run.

Samizdat paragonlostinspace I don’t blame them for an NDA to be honest. A few weeks ago when I included a bit of footage — I think it was siege weaponry — from the game, some knucklehead showed up to talk about how it looked like trash. In an alpha. Yeah, NDAs are helpful to stave off that. Get it looking good so the “hawt gfx or gtfo” crowd has nothing to feast on.

I bought into the game after watching it closely for the past year and half and I am super happy so far. “Betar” 1 should be starting soon, and even if its another few months I am happy to wait. The community has been great so far and the openness I have witnessed so far has made me not think twice about this being a mistaken investment and I look forward to helping this game grow as a proper “betar” tester.

paragonlostinspace Samizdat If I see gameplay footage and it looks interesting, I’ll be happy. I’m not looking for flaws, I’m just not sure what to make of a video that’s a player’s verbal interpretation of a conceptual Q&A overlaid with concept art. I prefer seeing whatever’s there that’s concrete, even if it’s only partially implemented.

These days I think NDAs are sort of an anachronism. More people are making games and are being exposed to the game development process, which is a good thing. I would like more developers to show our work as it progresses so everyone has a better idea of what goes into making a game and how they look at various phases, rather than it being an obscure and mystical process.

Samizdat   Honestly until it goes into beta I just don’t expect anything gameplay footage wise. What I mean by that is that I don’t view any gameplay footage with any realistic eye. I know what alpha or even closed beta means and I just go with the flow on this. If Mark says this isn’t what the game is going to look like in it’s final form I take him at his word and don’t make any evaluations.

I say this because when I see posts like yours I speculate that you all are wanting “actual” what the game will look like game play and that you’ll be critical and unhappy with this alpha gameplay. Which would be unfair to City State, if I am making any sense? I need to run for now, my motorcycle is ready sooner than I thought and I need to run into town to go snag it. :) Hopefully I’m making sense.

Samizdat Sounds like their planning on lifting the NDA shortly after Beta begins, so hopefully there will be an abundance soon!

Would be nice to see some more gameplay footage. Can’t find anything that looks like it’s up to date.
