Albion Online plans beta II for later this summer

In Albion Online’s latest developer video, Sandbox Interactive Game Director Robin Henkys and Creative Director Jörg Friedrich outline the studio’s activities since the March Cador update, plans for the Darion update, and the push toward the game’s second beta phase, which Henkys says is on target to begin later this summer.

Of note, the duo says the team has almost completed the swamp biome, one of five planned for the game, and spells will likely be reworked between the Darian patch and beta 2. They also show off some combat scenes and the ambiance and placeables of the Morgana faction.

Rozyn This is my go-to example of a kickstarter that isn’t vaporware really, but is still never going to fully release in any successful format

TimothyTierless Yeah, I don’t specifically care about the safe islands and whatnot but there have been so many changes since this I first read about this game that I’m not sure how the released version will eventually look. Which means it just goes on my list of “eh, maybe” games.

That moment when you realize this game not only hasn’t launched, but is still in beta stages. Yikes.

Giggilybits That seems to be where all my friends who did play are at. It’s too bad because they all sounded really into to the game at one point.

I’ve followed this since day one but that safe islands and PVP zones caused me to pull back and wait.

They are milking this beta for all it’s worth. It’s a fun game but ultimately it gets awkward when they keep holding betas, selling these expensive packages with beta access and never really releasing the game. Adding new features is great but the game needs to come out. You can just add things as you go along. The cash cow has to die at some point.

They’ve taken way to long to release this game. My interest has faded. Sorry.

OdinValhalla Honestly, I’ve played multiple NDA tests as well as some of the alpha’s and the beta.  There were issues with PVE content, overall combat and progression issues that the community mentioned over and over again.  They extended the beta from 3 months (Nov 2015 – Feb 2016, started at end of november) to 6 months (August 2016) making the entire beta a 9 month long process.

Many folks just stopped playing since they didn’t want to burn themselves out and a lot more folks just got tired of the never ending tests that this game has been doing since 2013(I think is the first test, someone can correct me if I’m wrong).  Not to mention a lot of the issues the community brought up were not worked on for quite awhile.

Honestly, I loved the game and suggested it to a lot of people but after them taking a long time to get things fixed and extending the beta to something that seemed overly long, I just lost interest.  They have had some patches since I stopped playing in early January but not sure where they are.  Maybe one day I will log back in but I’ve since accepted that it isn’t worth it till they are closer to open beta and release.

OdinValhalla  I’m sure that is part of it, but with any game you have a lot of code to debug.

Good luck to them, even if this is not the game I am looking for.
