Are we doing the time warp?

Activision-Blizzard’s first quarter 2016 financial report just hit the internet, and the company is declaring “better-than-expected” financial results.

“For the quarter ended March 31, 2016, Activision Blizzard’s GAAP net revenues were a Q1 record $1.46 billion, as compared with $1.28 billion for the first quarter of 2015. On a non-GAAP basis, the company’s net revenues were a Q1 record $908 million, as compared with $703 million for the first quarter of 2015. For the first quarter, GAAP net revenues from digital channels were an all-time quarterly record of $926 million, up 59% year-over-year, and represented a Q1 record 64% of the company’s total revenues. On a non-GAAP basis, net revenues from digital channels were an all-time quarterly record of $797 million, up 48% year-over-year, and represented an all-time quarterly record of 88% of the company’s total revenues.”

MMORPG World of Warcraft is mentioned briefly, many bullet points down in the list.

“On August 30, 2016, Blizzard is expected to launch its highly anticipated World of Warcraft® expansion, Legion™, following the Q2 release of the Warcraft film, produced by Legendary Pictures, in theaters worldwide. World of Warcraft remains the No. 1 subscription‐based MMORPG in the world.”

Also of note, Destiny is counting 30 million players and is still on track for a new expansion, and Overwatch is still on the way later this month “already has millions of people playing” according to the report.

DrowNoble mourasaint vicariousfan Estranged Don’t be absurd. All of SWTOR’s questlines are a sordid combination of “go get the power coupler/reroute the satellite signal/upload the navicomputer codes/slice into force-field generator/reroute the power supply/overpower the energy conduit”.

Outside of some mildly—emphasis on mildly—enthusing class-based storylines, there isn’t a shred of anything even remotely close to creative and/or compelling in 99.99% of SWTOR’s quests.

There’s a reason why they implemented an option to skip them.

I played SWTOR for 2+ years, alternating between Sith Inquisitor, Scoundrel, Imperial Agent, Jedi Knight and Consular, and the only force that drove me to keep playing was the increasingly floundering hope that at some point, at some stage, the storyline would redeem itself to be a pale shadow of KOTOR’s.

Alas, that stage never came…

Now, as for WoW? I was hooked the moment I stepped into Goldshire as a human Warrior.

mourasaint vicariousfan Estranged WoW has more story than SWTOR?  Thanks I needed a good laugh.
The story in WoW, such as it is, has no cohesion with anything else.  Each expansion is in a bubble all to itself.  Go to youtube and look up “red shirt guy blizzcon” to see how the fans seem to know more about WoW lore than the people at Blizzard do.
If you asked a SWTOR player what’s the story behind, say Quesh.  They can tell you the reason Imperials and Republic are there, plus why each individual class is there too.  Now, what’s the story behind Crystalsong Forest?  Tanaris?
Blizzard stopped caring about lore a long time ago.  One of the reasons people started leaving.

shaw sbst agemyth So instead, we should believe you, who surely does not have anyone’s numbers to compare to anything?

Trust me, Blizzard would know a lot more about their competitors’ numbers than you do.

The Sojourner CloakingDonkey I think it’s more than a decade of technical debt that is the cause of less frequent updates, personally.

mourasaint vicariousfan Estranged is that supposed to be an insult?   because that’s meaningless to me.   I don’t even know what IGN is.

Is this a GG/MRA thing?

It would be like me saying you’re  such a digget.    Obviously that means nothing to you so it in no way is an insult.

vicariousfan mourasaint Estranged Maybe you should look into commenting on IGN.

You’d be in your element there, much more so than here.

mourasaint vicariousfan Estranged haha what? you are delusional.  Head of Blizzard said this at blizzcon the year SWTOR came out.  They even stated they lost a sizable chunk of their subs because of it.   They said they would focus on more story based content that is fully voiced and cut scenes.

Man i forgot how awful you could be at trolling,  WoW in itself is nothing more then a clone of other MMOs.

CloakingDonkey If WoW’s hypothetical budget is 1 million dollars, do you think upping it to 2 million would make the game better? This fallacy of “more money means better” is getting out of hand. Instead of lower funding, it could very well be a lack of ideas that is the cause of less frequent updates.
