Chronicles of Elyria wraps up its PAX jousting jaunt

It might not have involved fluttering about on the back of a well-trained ostrich, but Chronicles of Elyria’s jousting minigame did well enough for itself at PAX West. The team chose to focus on jousting as a demo because it was a feature that it could repurpose for the MMO and because the team doesn’t quite have a playable MMO build as of yet.

Massively’s MJ was on hand to interview the team at PAX, digging out a lot of information about this upcoming fantasy MMO. She grilled the devs on the game’s monetization strategy, it’s PvP-heavy focus, Elyria’s tribal system, and how the team is fitting all of the parts together to make a functional “massively multiplayer world.”

Check out the lance-shattering, horse-pounding, herald-displaying action of Chronicles of Elyria’s jousting after the break!

So will jousting just be a mini game or will the game have mounted combat as well?

Vye: After much debate internally, we went with this jousting experience because it entails next-to-no throw-away work. That is to say, we’re not making jousting just so that we have something cool at PAX West. We’re making jousting because we were going to do it for launch anyway (jousting does not count as the Mounted Combat stretch goal, just a mounted attack) and it is a focused experience that shows off our work really nicely. […]

A bit of background information; the mounted combat stretch goal wasnt reached in the kickstarter and so it isnt a guaranteed feature. However the developer would like to implement it at some point (after launch) if they have enough time/resources.

They were supposed to be starting their no-wipe headstart around now I believe. I think these developers have the attention span of a squirrel. First they were making a game. Then they added an offline prelude (which I think was supposed to be out a year ago), then they added a mudd, then a Kingdoms of Elyria game, then they announced the prelude would be a small multiplayer game with DLC, now jousting. Is it any wonder the game will be years late? I’m waiting for them to announce a futuristic sci-fi space version that will be created in parallel.

It all seems to be about pre-selling things after all. Not so much about actually delivering anything.

You are not very well informed if you think that they planned for early access without wiping was planned for right now.

I’m not well informed? It’s been public knowledge that they plan a 3 month no wipe head start for high roller backers. They just call it the Exposition and you need to pledge something like $125 or $150 to get in when it starts.

I was referring more to the idea that this was something planned for release anytime soon. It was never stated that this would launch this summer. The thing that was planned for this summer but was pushed back, is the land and kingdom selection. Not early access to the game.

Really? The Kickstarter said Dec 2017 full release with Early Access head start 3 months earlier. That was the official date until just a few weeks ago when they announced the huge delay.
Please stop blatantly lying. You are not fooling anyone as it’s easily researched. Heck this site covered the delay announcement…

Nicely done for a pre Alpha.
