Last week, we wrote about the de facto maintenance-moding of LawBreakers, as Boss Key admitted the game wasn’t making money, not even enough to justify going free-to-play. At the time, the studio said that while it would support the game as it stood, it was also moving on to something new – a “passion project” that Boss Key is “in complete control of.” Do we detect some shade for Nexon there from the company whose boss told the press to fuck off? Surely not.
Anyway, when Boss Key said it was moving on, few people probably thought that meant “six days from now,” but that is indeed what’s happening. It’s announced a brand-new game – of course it’s a battle royale title – with an even more over-the-top thug-life style than LawBreakers had, and much more neon ’80s retro flavor and tawdry The Running Man-esque decadence. It’s called Radical Heights. Hey bro, let’s play some Rad. Brb, RadHi time. Hmm. Not sure. Then again, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue either.
“Welcome to RADICAL HEIGHTS, a free *X-TREME Early Access* BATTLE ROYALE shooter. Partake in high-stakes battle royale gunplay in a sunny SoCal dome as contestants drive-by on BMX bikes or stalk other contestants from the shadows in search for weapons and prizes…but also CASH that you can bank – win or lose! Whether you spend that cash on righteous customization in your personal prize room or pull it from an ATM to purchase weapons early in the next game — building a wealth of cash is as important as taking down the competition in this irreverent 80s-themed action game show where everyone wants to be rich and famous!”
According to Polygon, Radical Heights has been in production for five months already. X-TREME EARLY ACCESS, you guys.
Lawbreakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo
This comment wins the day. We can all stop now.
LOL! Feature this one MOP. I don’t know if that is possible anymore with the changes to the posting system.
It is, and so granted. :D
Cool! It is well earned.
It’s a “passion project” — Yeah, a passion for trying your damnedest to cash in on a craze.
Dudes. Seriously. You tried to cash in on the “arena hero shooter” and it didn’t work. What makes you think chasing Battle Royale will work any better?
Ok, how did we manage two April Fools days this month ?
I wonder how will they handle “gender neutral” bathrooms in an 80s game…
I mean it sounds/looks fun. It’s got the gameshow element and a retro look. Could certainly see it catching on if it doesn’t take itself too seriously (like Fortnite tries to do).
LawBreakers 2: Ele–SON OF A!! Someone already made that joke…
Eh, very least it has better lore than LawBreakers (that is not how the moon, nor gravity, works). That being said, wow, jumping on the battle royale bandwagon. So surprising. Late 90s era games not doing it for you so you jump on the new hotness?
Well I didn’t notice them flying out all the big streamers and throwing a party just to have them all not play when it launches this time. But since I don’t look at Twitch often maybe I just missed it.
Hands down the best setting of all Battle Royale games!
Nope. Best setting for a Battle Royale is still alternate history Japan that pits grade school students against each other in attempt to create and spread paranoia in the populace insuring the maintenance of an Orewellian totalitarian government.
(Someone better get that reference!)
Needs more Beat Takeshi.
Is the reference to… Battle Royale lol?
I enjoyed playing Lawbreakers while such a thing was practical. I’m off work tomorrow so I’ll give this new thing a chance.
Here comes the second “fuck off”!
Boss Key is as good as dead if they keep on this path of trend-chasing.
