Absolver is free-to-play this weekend as concurrency has dropped off

When Absolver launched last summer, it was doing pretty well for itself, with 30,000 concurrent players – so many, in fact, that it struggled with server stability. Over the last year, the unique multiplayer fighting game been continuing to tweak combat and work on an upcoming expansion.

In the meantime? Well, its playerbase has dropped off quite a bit, so maybe that’s why Sloclap and Devolver Digital are making the game free-to-play – but just for this weekend, through Sunday afternoon. The game’s also half off for the next week in case that freebie event grabs you.

The Downfall expansion, out next month, is also expected to be free-to-play; the studios have previously explained that it’ll be a PvE-centric update, with plenty of co-op play, new gear, new school competitions, and a Bruce Lee-inspired combat style.

The House Always Wins

Downloaded. Played tutorial. Having fun learning all the moves. Get out of tutorial area. Get killed by two PCs spamming punches. Uninstalled.

Solid 10/10.

I’m glad to hear about the PVE-centric update. I played this game a lot when it first came out, but with the actual story over so soon, and the lack of things to do outside of simply fight other players and learn new moves, my time with it dwindled fast after the story was completed. Here’s hoping this gives the game a new lease on life, as it really is a great one at its core.

Gave it a shot, though only lasted about 30 minutes. Not my thing.

same here – surely a different gameplay perspective though, so I unsarcastically wish them luck.

PVE centric? nice, i hope to see a stream for that expansion, the game is unique, at least the combat style.
