Absolver is free-to-play this weekend as concurrency has dropped off

When Absolver launched last summer, it was doing pretty well for itself, with 30,000 concurrent players – so many, in fact, that it struggled with server stability. Over the last year, the unique multiplayer fighting game been continuing to tweak combat and work on an upcoming expansion.

In the meantime? Well, its playerbase has dropped off quite a bit, so maybe that’s why Sloclap and Devolver Digital are making the game free-to-play – but just for this weekend, through Sunday afternoon. The game’s also half off for the next week in case that freebie event grabs you.

The Downfall expansion, out next month, is also expected to be free-to-play; the studios have previously explained that it’ll be a PvE-centric update, with plenty of co-op play, new gear, new school competitions, and a Bruce Lee-inspired combat style.
