Overwatch’s Halloween Terror begins October 9, but don’t expect ‘dramatic new game modes’

Overwatch has joined the short list of online games prepping their Halloween events nearly a month in advance: Blizzard announced this morning that Halloween Terror begins on October 9th, which means three weeks of terror. Six skins have leaked out so far too.

Before you get your hopes up, however, remember that during the last Overwatch dev update, Blizzard’s Jeff Kaplan tempered expectations for this event and other near-future events, partly in response to grumbling over the recent Summer Games event.

“There’s not going to be dramatic new game modes or changes to the existing game modes in Halloween Terror,” Kaplan said at the time. Expect tweaks to Junkenstein’s Revenge, but nothing major, as the team is focusing instead on hero balance changes and quality-of-life tweaks – and less on new versions of maps.
