MapleStory 2’s launch did well on Steam, but the Mapleopoly event was a problem

On a unicorn.

Good news, MapleStory 2 fans, the game did well after its first day on Steam! The chart for the game is obviously not indicative of everyone playing the game (since there are other ways to play the title), but it attracted solid numbers with more than 26,000 playing at launch. Respectable! Pity it then went on to have some notable trouble with one of its launch events, the Mapleopoly game.

[AL:MS2]What happened was that the reward for fully clearing the board one time was 15 MapleCoins, which was fine in and of itself… except that a trip around the board usually cost that much or less. Thus, to keep things balanced, it was necessary to change that reward to 3 Maple Mushroom potions… which left those who hadn’t yet been clearing the board left out. So everyone who hits level 50 before the event is over will receive 150 MapleCoins for free, thus preserving the experience without leaving things in an unbalanced state. If you’re curious about what has people playing the game at this point, you can check out MJ’s launch-day stream below.
