The Daily Grind: What animals would you like to see more of in MMOs?

They exist.

This probably will not surprise anyone reading this, but I really like animals. But I still get a bit depressed at the fact that most MMOs feature more or less the same subset of animals over and over. Bears, wolves, cats, some sort of rodent, a few ungulates, birds… it’s all pulling from the same basic template, and you know that you’re always going to wind up fighting some bears so the real question is what sort of bears there will be.

This is depressing solely because, well… look at pangolins. These armored little sweethearts feel like fantastical creatures and yet they’re real. Why don’t we see more things based on deep-sea isopods? Why not gharials? Whip scorpions (sure, they’re not actual harmful, but neither are 99% of scorpions or spiders)? Leeches? Lampreys? Manuls? The list goes on. I’m not even hitting highlights, these are just animals that pop into my mind off the top of my head.

Sure, it isn’t a huge deal, but I’d love to see all of the above turn up in MMOs on a regular basis. But what about you, dear readers? What animals would you like to see more of in MMOs?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
