It’s been an eventful — albeit short — year for MapleStory 2, which just launched in October and released its major Skybound expansion early this month, and in the game’s latest producer blog, Nexon’s Jungsoo Lee reflects on the year’s lessons learned and looks forward to the game’s plans for 2019. Lee writes that the devs “recognize that there is feedback around the random aspect of progression combined with the content cap” and that they are currently “discussing different ideas to ensure players are always making progress when they invest time into the game.”
[AL:MS2]In addition, Lee notes that in the early days after the game’s launch, the dev team was largely “focused on making changes with a fast turnaround,” which meant that many of the fixes implemented were temporary “Band-Aid” fixes that often had “unexpected side-effects.” The team’s takeaway from this is that it would do well to “be more thorough,” and Lee states that “going forward [the team’s] philosophy will be to take more time to thoroughly review our options and come up with better solutions.”
Reflecting on the past is all well and good, but Lee also looks forward to the future, laying out what players can look forward to seeing in the game as we enter the new year. He writes that the content that has been prepared for the game’s “early January update” will be “released as scheduled,” though he provides no details on what exactly that content entails. Players can also plan on seeing a number of events “to help players make faster progress with the current systems and structures.” Perhaps most importantly, Lee announces that MapleStory 2’s next expansion will be coming next summer, with smaller content updates coming between now and then to keep players busy in the interim.
